Apoptosis vs Necrosis Drug Screen



The understanding of mechanisms involved in cellular death is important for vaccine and pharmaceutical drug safety and efficacy. Cellular death is accomplished through a programmed process known as apoptosis or by directly acting on the cell by lysing the membrane known as necrosis.
 
IQFCS is offering a high throughput drug screen assay for easy detection of cellular death induced by exposure to pharmaceutical compounds. In the example given, the mechanisms of cell death initiated by two different proteins (A and B) were examined. Either proteins A or B were incubated with an epithelial cell line for 24 hours in a 96 well plate. Thirty minutes prior to testing, a cell permeable apoptosis probe was added to the cells. Cells were then released from the plates and analyzed by flow cytometry

The experiment presented determined that protein A induced a necrotic response to epithelial cells. In contrast, protein B initiated apoptosis.
